We have friends in Asheville and Henderson, NC. Lines are down so we cannot get through. Any ideas as how to check on them? I would drive down from MN but then I'd get down there and either find out that we are in the way or wished we had brought certain items. Any ideas? We also give to Mercy Chefs as Melody Ann wrote. Melody Ann, can you help me?

I live in Kentucky and my daughter is now in Tryon with friends until they figure out next steps. They got electricity last Thursday so maybe Henderson will get back online very soon. Sorry I can't be of more help.

We have been giving to Mercy Chefs. They are in Asheville right now. We were just there helping our daughter and her family move out of their flooded home. Mercy Chefs provides hot meals, lunch and supper to disaster victims. It's a great Christian group helping so many get a good hot meal.

I am looking for an animal rescue organization that is on the ground that I can volunteer and go help all the displaced animals. Any help would be awesome. I will obviously donate as well to help their cause. Thank you.

Peggy,

Look into Project Phoenix 2.0.

A Hurricane Simulation for Tampa Bay Small Businesses & Emergency Management Agencies

The tabletop exercise (TTX) leads participants through a facilitated discussion of roles, procedures, and responsibilities in the context of a Category 5 hurricane in the Greater Tampa Bay Area.

I have personally volunteered with Samaritans Purse and would add them. Headquarters are in Boone, NC and they are on the ground. I am a native North Carolinian, but went to Louisiana in 2016 to volunteer with flood relief.

My church is also actively supporting, we are taking turns taking time off work to serve our fellow brothers and sisters! Beulah Baptist Church, Statesville, NC, www.beulahchurch.com/disasterrelief

Don't call them donations. Call them gifts.
