Thank you, Peggy! I wonder how the animals/pets are being treated now during evacuations and such? I mean with Hurricane Helene? And now I hear of a new hurricane coming to Florida...???

The Bush Administration was destroyed by their mishandling of the political fallout from Hurricane Katrina. Because the approaching storm had several days to arrive, the Democrats had adequate time to organize and conspire with the media to plan their pounce on Bush when the storm hit. Both houses of Congress reverted to the Democrats at the next midterm elections. Bush was impotent from that point onward, and he never got to "spend his political capital."

Mountain City animal shelter needs adoption immediately. Some poor babies have been there 1-3 years. No power. Unicoi was flooded out & Wendy Alexis stayed to evacuate the animals and got FIRED. Animal Shelter of Sullivan County has those extra and All of the E TN shelters & rescues have already been overwhelmed & overflowing from abuse cases and dumped litters way before this. Morristown Hamblen, Greeneville, Newport, Hawkins County Humane Society, Appalachian Highlands Humane Society and many more. I don't know how to get transport or adoption but maybe you can. I also know for a fact that it was neighbors & LOCALS helping each other and rescuing with boats etc for well over a week while Joe had ice cream. YES. I'm here in E TN ( not mentioned by WH) my sister in Black Mountain brother in Florida and SW VA is also a mess. This is SO widespread.

I think it's much worse this time. Our only hope is for Fema to stay away. The churches and locals are doing a great job. We went over yesterday. They need helicopters and fuel.

My Husband and I a hotel across the bridge from Biloxi. We rode Katrina out at the hotel. Our home was in Biloxi, MS.

The storm surge came almost to the second floor, and then it starting receding. My sister n laws home in ocean completely flooded.

The next morning we were able to take I 10 to Biloxi. Total devastation. Our home was completely gone. The storm surge washed it into the neighborhood. No way to who’s house was who’s. I saw a lot of suffering and loss up and down the gulf coast.

Biloxi was my husband’s home town. However, I could no longer live there. I was tired of running from storms, and spending days trying to find accommodations. It was crazy.

We moved to middle Tn in 2006.

Best choice we ever made.

Helene, I have a friend that eventually moved to Erwin TN. She survived Katrina too. Now Helene.

Thank you for helping the animals post Katrina! My family adopted a dog that had been saved after Katrina. He was very traumatized but eventually was able to relax and have a great life.

This story has me in tears. I was in Austin at the time of Katrina. We sponsored a mother and daughter from N.O. and did everything we could to make their stay in Austin warm and welcoming. The lost pets issue strikes a painful chord in my heart. Such vulnerable beings! 😭 Thank you again, Peggy. Can’t tell you how much your love, compassion and courage mean to me and countless others. 🙏🏻🥰
